Croatian Community Council

The Croatian Community Council of South Australia is an umbrella body representing South Australian Croatian organisations and Croatian South Australians.

Over the years the Community Council has worked on several projects around South Australia including the production of the 1997-1998 Croatian Community and Business Directory and the regular organisation of team members for Australia in the Croatian World Games.

The Croatian World Games are held in Croatia every 3 years, with the next games to be held in 2021. The 4th Games were held in Zagreb in 2017 with more than 900 Croats from all over the world taking part. Among them 36 participants from Australia.  If you are interested in participating in the Croatian World Games, please contact Ante Radić for further information on 0433 470 440.

Over the last few years, the Croatian Community Council has also organised ‘Croatians in South Australia – Community and Identity since 1945’ exhibition at the Migration Museum; Croatian Arts Project ‘Croatian Connections’ featuring 13 South Australian artists of Croatian descent; Croatian History talks, given by Dr Danijel Džino, the leading authority on Croatian History currently living in Australia and presentation by Journalist Hamish McDonald regarding the investigation into the injustice and imprisonment of the Croatian Six in his book Reasonable Doubt.

Recently the members of the Croatian Community Council and others within our community have shown interest in knowing more about Croatian History.  Interest is varied and several groups have been established for

  • The History of Croatia

  • Recorded memoirs of South Australian Croatians

  • The history, development, and achievement of our Community

  • The recording, cataloguing, and archiving of Croatian History in South Australia

If you have a love of history or would like to be involved, please register your interest by emailing us at

This group exhibition will bring together thirteen artists who have a cultural affiliation with Croatia. Within this common background, each artist has an individual perception of their personal identity and has developed a unique form of expression through their respective art practice. Artworks presented will feature diverse media including painting, photography, sculpture, mixed media and collage. This exhibition will offer a unique opportunity to reflect on what it is to live in a multicultural Australian society today.
